POLKA DOTS AND PEARLS

I'm not a sucker for polka dots but this pattern always catches my eyes. It gives this certain vintage appeal that is hard to resist (like a vintage pinup girl model). It looks so young and cheerful; flirty and fun.

To tone down the prints of this flirty polka dot blue dress (which is up for grabs at ebay) and make it more appropriate as an office attire, I grabbed the most light colored blazer I have in my closet which I also blog here. I really like how the two pieces, with the chunky mary janes, complement each other making the whole look - sweet and preppy.

I accentuate the dress by wearing accessories in the same circle patterns. I chose a small and neutral colored pearls, with some trinkets, not to bring attention away from the polka dress.

For the last part of the photo ops, I take off my blazer because 1) my ever reliable and patient photographer, Sam, has instructed me to 2) I'm sweating already and 3) thought my arms looks a little bit smaller (yes it did depending on the angle haha) in this dress which I am hiding for sixteen months because of an after birth cellulite..well until now actually.

This cinch waist a-line dress is made of a very light material which may be too dangerous when the wind blows.

RED, YELLOW AND BLUE

An attempt to color block using the symbolic colors of the Philippine flag might sound too patriotic to me. But the fact hat they complement each other is enough to justify the peg. The rule of thumb on color blocking suggests that a combination of more than three colors in an ensemble makes you a walking color wheel. As you can see, I have used six colors: red-blue-red-violet-black and brown.

RED, YELLOW AND BLUE
You  can never go wrong with combining these three tried and tested primary colors.

BLACK AND BROWN
To avoid distractions and keep the colors on top.

VIOLET
All the while I thought that the belt I am wearing is color blue.Haha.

Soooooo, do I look like a walking color wheel???or a trying hard cartoon?
(whispering..) I just want to let the colors pop in the photos. This is the moment for colors :)

While I am writing this blog, the stop motion video "Three Primary Colors" by OK Go for Sesame Street pop out in my head and I can't help singing "there are 3 primary colors.. only three are primary is true.. the world is full of every kind of colors.. but were just talking red, yellow and blue..."

I have to say that I used a violet belt because blue and red makes purple!!

I GOT HERD OF REINDEERS

I got ecstatic about getting my hands over this oversized poncho when it was put up on sale five months ago in a popular online store. The deciding point, however, is how much money will I burn when I have to place an order abroad against digging its local branch hoping to get lucky to have the same design in the sale rack. I guess being so strapped for cash at that moment is a blessing in disguise :)

I paired the oversized poncho/cardigan with a fitted dress and glam it up by adding a vintage inspired collar necklace in gold tone. Since I have short legs (as what I am often say), I chose a short dress which has almost the same length as the poncho to look taller.

You get more value to the hard-earned money by shopping wisely :)

BACK TO BASICS

A basic shirt over a skinny pants is definitely one of the ensemble that never fails to give that casual classic look. Look simple yet elegant by adding any type of statement necklace, the chunkier the better.

Whatever fashion trends you follow, you will still go back to the basics.
